Newest trolleybus network is in service in Chomutov and Jirkov cities since 1995. In the early 80’s period there were plans to built here some fast-tramway lines. Construction of tramway depot started in early 1986, but at the end of 80’s decision was changed for construction of new complete trolleybus network. Large amount of work was finished in early 90’s, so in 1994 first new articulated 15Tr trolleybuses were delivered, and after long testing were given into service.
In july 1998, trollebus routes 10 and 12 between Chomutov and Jirkov
were introduced. This test service was finsihed in august 1995, and since
1st September 1995, regular service between Chomutov and Jirkov, plus innercity
routes in Chomutov were introduced into service, so lines 1,2,10 and 12
were here.
In 1998, trolleybus routes were extended, when new lines to hospital
and to ironworks were opened. At this time, new line scheme was introduced,
there are now two groups of trolleybus lines, 20... are innercity Chomutov's
routes, while 30... are interurban Chomutov-Jirkov routes
In 1995, a fleet of 25 articulated trolleybuses Škoda 15Tr with No. 001-025 was here. There were no changes since this time! Although new low-floor Škoda 21Tr prototype was tested here, it was not purchased yet.
In 2000, major city
crossing near Zimni stadion was modified. During that time, all routes were
diverted via Vodní. After reopening of this line, short branch to new bus
station was opened. Some lines were diverted via this route, other ends there.
