Museum of urban Transport, Praha

Most of Prague’s tramcars and buses is preserved in Museum Of Urban Transport Praha. This collection here is collected since mid of 60’s. In 1993 this museum was finally opened to public. It is opened on saturdays and sundays, betwenn April-October. It is located in former Depot Stresovice, this is station of daily lines 1,2,8,18, station Vozovna Stresovice (depot Stresovice). Entrance Fee is 20,- CZK (approx. 1 DEM)

Here is short overview of vehicles:

90: Open car of horse tramway. Oldest vehicle in museum, was built in 1886

88: Oldest electric tramcar. This vehicle was delivered in 1900 and remained in service until 1928

109: This tramcar was delivered in 1901, and it’s history is similar with No.88

200: Salon Car, assembled in 1900, but delivered in 1901. It was usually used for the rides of Lord Mayor of Praha, after 1951 it was rebuilt to children’s tramway. Its reconstrution to original state was finished in 1995.

275: This vehicle was delived in 1908 as a part of large batch of vehicles. In 1955 was sold to Olomouc, was returned back in 1966

297: This vehicle was made in 1909 and was used in Praha in public transport until 1962. After 1966 is is museum.

357: Vehicle was delivered in 1915 and remained in service until 1963

444: A typical post-war vehicle was delivered in 1923. In public transport survived until 1969.

500: Very popular summer tramway with opened top. It was used for sightseeing cruises until 1952

608: Typical Praha’s trailer, delivered 1908

624: Trailer delivered in 1909, similar to 608, but shorter

638: This vehicle is similar with No.624

728: Same trailers were made until 1920. This one is from the very last batch

999: Typical post-war trailer (tin can), delivered 1926. They were used until 1974

1111: Another tin can, delivered 1928, withdrawned 1972

1219: One of the few vehicles that they were not made in Praha. It was assembled in Kolin’s car factory {Kolin is mid-sized city located 60 km east from Praha)

1314: Typical Praha’s trailer called Krasin (famous Russian icebreaker) They were delivered between 1931 and 1946, and survived mostly until 1974

1523, 1580: Another Krasin’s first delivered 1942, second one 1946

1583: Three Krasins were reconstructed in 1963. However, this was not very succesfull attempt, and no more vehicles were reconstructed this way

2222, 2239: Typical 30’s Praha’s tramcars. Both they survived until 1973.

2294: Relatively similar vehicle with 22xx class. It was delivered in 1932 and withdrawned 1972.

3063: Popular tramcar called „submarine“. They were delivered in war times (1942) and survived until 1967.

3083: Last post-war two-axle tramway. They were delivered in 1948, and survived until 1971.

5001: First prototype of PCC-like vehicle T1, delivered 1951. Withdrawned in 1976

6002: Prototype of T2 vehicle. This tramcar was delivered in 1956, but in 1957 it was regauged to 1000 mm and after testing in Liberec was sold to today’s slovakian capital Bratislava. It was returned in 1977 to Praha.

6149: Typical example of T3, world’s most selling tram. Delivered 1963, withdrawned 1984. Hunderds of these tramcars are still in service in whole Central and Eastern Europe

4053: Motor freight coach, delivered 1917

4501, 4507, 4525, 4532: Freight trailers

4072: Electric loco, used in central workshops in Rustonka between 1952 and end of 70’s

301, 431, 494: Museum trolleybuses. See please Wires of Faded Glory for details

3779, 4537,4881,7135: Buses from Praha’s transport - delivered between 1973 and 1990
