A Visual Guide to Moscow Tramways | << | >> |
A tramline from Rogozhskaya Zastava to Dangauerovskaya Sloboda district was constructed in 1925. Later it was extended, and other tramlines joined with this main line. In 1980 the Metro line was opened; its route goes almost along the tramline, but the patronage on tram routes did not drop significally. Trams still handle most passengers on short rides, and many people prefer to take tram instead of Metro for local trips.
The tram line runs close to the Aviamotornaya metro station. There is an electric power plant in the distance. The power plants in Moscow use gas for a fuel, so the pollution caused by them is rather low. February 2000. |

This tram is about to turn to Shosse Entuziastov. #4267 is under testing, so no passengers can be seen inside. February 2000. |

A short connecting line between Krasnokazarmennaya
Street and Shosse
Entuziastov was put into operation in 1969. While this span is served by many routes, the number of trams is still
quite unusual - it was caused by a road incident on tracks. While the incident is being cleared up, drivers are having
a short unexpected rest.

This junction of Shosse Entuziastov with Aviamotornaya Street for many a year was a junction of tramlines, too. The line turning right has been abandoned more than two decades ago, and all routes now use the line in a parallel street; but the tracks and wires are (almost) ready for use, save the switches.
